Events
The Friends of the National Museum of the American Latino, Inc (Friends of the American Latino Museum) has launched a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of and support for Hispanic heritage and history with the creation of a National Museum of the American Latino.
The campaign launch coincided with the unveiling on May 5, 2011 at the White House of the Final Report to the President and Congress of the United States by the National Museum of the American Latino Commission. The Report, entitled “To Illuminate the American Story for All,” details the Commission’s feasibility study on creating a national museum dedicated to the American Latino. The regional events are attended by political, business, and community leaders in each locale, and they feature a special presentation of the final commission report.
New York Regional Event- June 2, 2011
The Friends of the American Latino’s national campaign began with an event on June 2, 2011 at time Time Warner Center in New York City. This event was made possible by sponsors AARP, Time Warner, DIRECTV and Time Warner Cable.
Los Angeles Regional Event- July 20, 2011
On July 20, 2011 the Friends of the American Latino Museum continued its national campaign with an event at the historic Tamayo's Restaurant in East Los Angeles. This event was made possible with the support of DirectTV, Time Warner Cable, Warner Bros. Entertainment, TELACU, and Telemundo.
Washington, DC Regional Event- September 12, 2011
During the CHCI Policy Conference, the Friends of the American Latino Museum hosted a regional engagement event in Washington, DC. The event was held on September 12, 2011 at the Washington DC Convention Center.
Miami Regional Event- September 21, 2011
The Friends of the American Latino Museum continues its national campaign with an engagement event in Miami, Florida. This event was held during the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Convention on September 21, 2011 at the prestigious Freedom Tower of Miami Dade Community College. Generous support from Pfizer, Artes Miami, Miami Dade College, and media sponsor, El Sentinel have made this event possible.
