Help Us Honor American Latino History!

Our bill is now the law of the land!

After nearly three decades of work, the National Museum of the American Latino was approved by Congress and enacted into law on December 27, 2020. The Smithsonian Institution is now charged with beginning the process of establishing a National Museum of the American Latino to commemorate the more than 500 years of Latino contributions to our great nation. We owe this victory to our partners, supporters, and donors who have dedicated time and resources to making this dream a reality. 

 

What is next?

FNMAL and our community will continue its work to secure the best location on the National Mall, raise the millions of private dollars, and ensure Congress allocates the funds needed to open the doors of our museum. We hope to count on your support as we embark on this journey. 

 

There are two ways you can help immediately: 

  1. Call your Members of Congress to urge them to include funding to the fiscal year 2022 appropriations bill for the American Latino Museum and demand that our museum be on the National Mall. 

Give what you can! If every Latino in the US donated $5, we would have the Latino Museum fully funded. Donate now to kick off the Smithsonian fund for the construction of our museum.

We Need a National American Latino Museum

The contributions of American Latinos to this nation date back to even before its creation, and we are committed to rightfully honoring those stories with a national institution.

Currently there are over 50.5 million Americans of Latino descent in this country, representing more than 16% of the U.S. population. The passing of the Smithsonian American Latino Museum is vital for the development of this growing population that is estimated to total 25% of the U.S. population by 2050.

We are next: It has already been over 7 years since our commission completed its work. The time is now.

We must be on the National Mall: The National Mall is America’s front yard, welcoming more than 24 million visitors each year. This is the place that landmark museums such as the National Museum of the American Indian and the National Museum of African American History and Culture currently call home, showing these visitors the contributions of all the peoples that built this great nation. It is where we belong.

We must have the same funding structure as all other Smithsonians: Like all Smithsonian museums before it, this museum will utilize public funds, but not without significant private investment. Private gifts are currently projected to be 50% of the construction costs for our Museum.
